To channel the “most interesting man in the world” here, I don’t always indulge in luxurious self-care experiences, but when I do, it’s at The Best Spa in Charleston: Woodhouse Day Spa!
In all seriousness though, I think a lot of women can relate to the idea that we don’t always partake in lavish self-care treatments or experiences, as there is often a certain level of guilt that comes with this type of investment in ourselves. I know I sometimes even feel the need to overly justify my hair appointments, which is ridiculous because my husband couldn’t care less, but a lot of us are cut from this cloth.
I’ve been making a conscious effort in recent years to take better care of myself, and liken the importance of self-care to the spiel we hear every time we step foot on an airplane about putting on your own oxygen mask before helping those around you. If I’m a run-down hot mess, everything, and everyone around me suffers (I mean seriously, my poor husband…). But in order for me to invest in any form of self-care, the result or the experience has to be exceptional.
This is why I’m so glad I was recently introduced to Woodhouse Day Spa in Mount Pleasant during a little blogger retreat.
Living with a houseful of animals, I’m acutely aware of the way things smell, so the first thing I noticed before I even made my way through the entrance of Woodhouse were the incredible scents coming from inside. Nothing overpowering, just clean and soothing….and obviously 1000x better than a houseful of gassy french bulldogs;)
Once inside, I was welcomed by a friendly Woodhouse staff member and a beautiful boutique with so many unique selections: from jewelry, to beauty products, to clothing, there’s definitely a little something to pique everyone’s interest.
Since there was a small group of us, we took full advantage of Woodhouse’s cozy and stylish VIP lounge, sipped on champagne, and snacked on some charcuterie before our spa treatments. A couple of us had not met before, but there’s something about a bunch of women hanging out in posh fluffy bathrobes that brings out the 13-year-old-girl-at-a-slumber-party in all of us. The girl-talk commenced and everyone instantly connected.
We all left Woodhouse with new friends that evening, and I think this would be a perfect way to spend a day connecting with some gal-pals for any bridal or birthday celebrations, especially if not everyone knows each other. The super plush robes Woodhouse provides are a great equalizer, so to speak, so nobody will be left insecure about whether they’re too dressed up, or too dressed down. You truly can’t help but let your worries go to the wayside and relax in this serene environment.
After the incredibly stressful time we had over the holidays, I opted for one of their seasonal 50 minute massages, while a couple of the other girls were pampered with Woodhouse’s HydraFacial, and another had an Illuminating Facial treatment.
I’ve been pretty persistent with my skincare routine since officially entering my late 30s (soon to be 40s…gasp!), but I cannot tell you the last time I had a massage, and now I am KICKING MYSELF that I’ve been depriving my body for so long. I requested to have a female masseuse, and Destiny (which is her name, in case there’s any confusion;)) took amazing care of me that day. I’m a talker by nature, and Destiny was incredibly professional and polite while I gabbed her ears off throughout my treatment. In true form, I broke the silence by telling her that her hands felt gigantic, which I thought was crazy considering she probably weighed 110 pounds. I suppose that’s the magic of a highly skilled masseuse¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Everything was planned perfectly, so we all completed our treatments and returned to the VIP lounge around the same time to continue the girl talk, snacking, and sipping, while feeling totally rejuvenated. The ladies who had facials had beautiful glowing, dewy skin and raved about their treatments.
My incredible experience was gifted to me by Woodhouse for this event, but as you can see from this price list that I’m conveniently posing beside here, their rates are actually very reasonable. I was honestly pleasantly surprised by this. The experience is so luxurious, one would think this level of pampering would cost much much more.
The great news for all my fellow Charlestonians is that Woodhouse Day Spa now has TWO LOCATIONS here in the lowcountry.
Woodhouse Spa owner, Kim Powell, saw her vision for the new location come to life when they officially opened their doors for business last month. You can find this super spa at the corner of Spring Street and Lockwood Drive at the new Westedge community in Downtown Charleston.
The same quality menu of services available at their Mount Pleasant location will be offered at this new two story, 9,000 sq ft luxury day spa, as well as a boutique. I’m currently pushing to organize a girls’ day here so we can take full advantage of their new relaxation rooms, which are equipped with cozy fireplaces. It’s been bone-chilling cold here the last few days, so this would be such a treat.
Services can be booked online at either location here. To book group spa experiences, they can be contacted by phone to make arrangements. All contact information can be found here on their website.
Valentine’s Day is also creeping up quickly, and a couples massage, or a gift card for your special someone would be such a perfect way to celebrate:)
A huge thank you to Woodhouse Spa for hosting me and sponsoring this post. It’s always such a pleasure to highlight exceptional local businesses!
What are some helpful ways you indulge in self-care? I’m always looking for suggestions!
