Okay yall….I know my last couple posts have been a bit depressing, so I’m really eager to get back to some more lighthearted subject matter, and I’m pretty sure this fun leopard sequin skirt is a great place to start;)
I wore this skirt for the first time to a blogger event a couple weeks ago (right after I received it because I was so excited about it) and paired it with a simple black fitted turtleneck sweater, my basic black stiletto booties that I always wear, the patent leather belt I’m wearing in these pics, and threw a black leather moto jacket over my shoulders.
I was running late for the event because of crazy rush hour traffic, so as I was frantically hurrying to feed the parking meter on bustling King Street in Downtown Charleston, I was startled by a woman who had run out of one of the little shops across the street just because she wanted to tell me she loved my skirt, and then she ran back inside where I’m sure it was much warmer. I mean, I knew the skirt was cute, but I was surprised it elicited a woman running out of a cozy store just to tell me that;) . Little did I know that was just the beginning of it. I only walked about two blocks from my car to the event, yet I received no less than a half dozen genuine compliments on it from complete strangers. Not to mention a few from the lovely girls at the event (I actually did not know a single soul there, so I was extremely thankful for these friendly little interactions).
I can’t remember that last time I wore something that drew such an overwhelming positive response (in real life, vs. on instagram;)), so at just $25 I feel like this is a skirt that is more than worth the tiny investment. There are so many fun ways to wear it too. As you can see I’ve styled it a couple ways here taking it from a more casual/edgy daytime look, to a night-on-the-town type look. Leopard was huge last season, this season, and I’m pretty sure it’s here to stay through next season. Sort of like camo prints. If done right, they’re essentially wardrobe staples.:)
In case you haven’t noticed, I love belting my clothing whenever I can. I don’t exactly have an hourglass figure….even when I was in the best shape of my life, so I find that throwing on a belt on gives me a defined waist and flatters my figure more.
Now let’s talk about Valentine’s Day.
I know there are many mixed views toward this hallmark card holiday, and I totally get it. Michael and I honestly haven’t done much for Valentine’s Day since we’ve been married (so going on 10 years….yikes!). We do try to go out to dinner, but my previous career usually hosed up those plans because I was typically spending my Valentine’s night staying up till the wee hours trying to meet deadlines.
Thankfully those days are over, but we haven’t quite gotten back in the swing of things as far as establishing any sort of tradition. It truly doesn’t bother me if we do nothing at all, but my heart still can’t help but flutter at the sight of fun/tasteful valentine’s themed clothing, like this adorable sweater I just ordered, or a gorgeously feminine lace dress, such as this budget friendly one I just threw in my cart.
I think most of us can find Valentine’s appropriate wear in our existing wardrobes, but if you are looking for something new to wear I’ve rounded up some options for just about every occasion. Even if you’re just looking for a cute top or sweater to wear to work that day:) . Most of my picks are budget friendly, but I’ve included a few splurges as well.
So who’s with me on V-Day being no big deal?? =\
